Riders, this is a SAPGR mission. However, the church is located closer to Austin than San Antonio, so it's a good one for riders from our region.

Veteran: Master Sergeant Charlie J. Mares, 30, KIA in Korea on July 31, 1950. He was declared MIA and presumed KIA in 1953. Earlier this year his remains were positively identified and his family notified. He will now receive a proper repatriation and interment in Texas.

This is a two part mission. First part is a procession from the funeral home in Flatonia to the church in Cistern, about 20 min. The second part is the flag line at the church prior to the funeral service and a second flag line at the burial service.

The following is the the mission posting from SAPGR.
_________________________________________________________________________

The family of Mr. Charlie Mares, a US Army Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services, LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one.

Charlie John MARES, was born on 25 December 1919 in Texas and enlisted in the U.S. Army on 24 October 1948. He was a Master Sergeant (M Sgt) with Charlie Company (C Co), 1st Battalion (1st Bn), 34th Infantry Regiment (34th INF), 24th Infantry Division (24th ID) and was sent to Korea when the war broke out in 1950. He was last seen on 31 July 1950, during a firefight with the Korean People’s Army (KPA) at the town of Kwonbin-ni. Without evidence of continued survival, the Army issued a presumptive Finding of Death on 31 December 1953 for M Sgt MARES. Today, M Sgt MARES is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (NMCP, also known as the “The Punchbowl”) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
